What is Transition?
Under the federal law, The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA),the term "transition services" means a coordinated set of activities designed within a result-oriented process, that promotes movement from school to post-school activities. These activities include post-secondary education, vocational education, meaningful employment (including supported employment), continuing and adult education, adult day services, age appropriate leisure activities, accessible community housing and transportation, independent living, and community participation.
The goals of these transition services are to enable your child to be successful in whatever plans he/she wants to pursue after high school and to allow him/her the opportunity to become as independent and self-sufficient as possible.
